WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, BCBSTX announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on February 11, 2025, BCBSTX became aware of unauthorized activity on its portal system: Blue Access for MembersSM.1 As a result, BCBSTX launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, BCBSTX confirmed that sensitive personal information in Blue Access for MembersSM may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between November 8, 2024, and March 5, 2025. As a result, BCBSTX began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Telephone numbers
- Fax numbers
- Email address
- Service dates
- Medical record numbers
- Health plan beneficiary numbers
- Account numbers
- Medical/dental service and billing information
As a result of the breach, BCBSTX posted a notice of the incident on its website. Based on the website breach notice, BCBSTX is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
