WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, WPM Pathology discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On April 17, 2025, WPM Pathology filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the WPM Pathology breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the WPM Pathology breach included the protected health information belonging to over 5,600 individuals. As a result of the data breach, WPM Pathology may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
