Founded in 1958, HPI produces roughly 380 million live pounds of chickens per year with a product mix of primarily whole birds, bulk chicken parts and boneless chicken items.2 Today, HPI is one of the few remaining USA chicken plants producing a golden-yellow chicken, which it sells domestically and internationally.2 Headquartered in Bethlehem, Georgia, HPI employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, HPI reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on December 17, 2024, HPI became aware of suspicious activity on its network.1 As a result, HPI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, HPI confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between November 14, 2024, and December 12, 2024. As a result, HPI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Credit or debit card number
- Medical records information
As a result of the data breach, HPI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, HPI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
