Founded in 2005, Salus Group was originally established as a Credit Union Service Organization that brought technology, employee benefits consulting, and administration to credit unions.3 Today, Salus Group has expanded its portfolio of clients (school districts, construction, physician groups, associations, etc.) and is now made up of a diverse mix of businesses throughout the United States.3 Headquartered in Sterling Heights, Michigan, Salus Group employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Salus Group reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on October 9, 2024, Salus Group identified suspicious activity in one employee’s email account.1 As a result, Salus Group launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Salus Group confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Salus Group began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
- Clinical treatment information
- Health insurance information
On March 27, 2025, Salus Group began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Salus Group is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
