Arkansas Heart Hospital Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Arkansas Heart Hospital announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on March 15, 2025, Arkansas Heart Hospital was informed by a vendor that it had experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to patient information contained within electronic medical records.1 As a result, Arkansas Heart Hospital launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Arkansas Heart Hospital confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between January 22, 2025, and February 20, 2025. As a result, Arkansas Heart Hospital began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Phone number and email address
  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • Ethnicity
  • Language
  • Maiden name
  • Marital status
  • Religion
  • Death/deceased status
  • Living will indicator
  • Medical information (e.g., treatment/diagnosis information, prescription information, provider name, medical record/case number)
  • Health insurance information

 

On March 21, 2025, Arkansas Heart Hospital posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Arkansas Heart Hospital plans to send breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
