WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Smiths Interconnect reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on January 23, 2025, Smiths Interconnect became aware of a cyber security incident.1 As a result, Smiths Interconnect launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on February 3, 2025, Smiths Interconnect confirmed that sensitive personal information in its system belonging to current and former employees may have compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Smiths Interconnect began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Contact information
- Driver’s license or other government issued identification
- Tax ID
- Financial information
- Health information
- Health insurance information, including information associated with benefits enrollment
On March 27, 2025, Smiths Interconnect began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, Smiths Interconnect is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
