Imaflex Data Breach Investigation

Imaflex is a manufacturing company based in Canada. Founded in 1994, Imaflex is focused on the development and manufacturing of innovative solutions for the flexible packaging space.2 Concurrently, Imaflex develops and manufactures films for the agriculture industry, and its products consist primarily of polyethylene (plastic) film and bags, including metalized plastic film, for the industrial, agricultural and consumer markets.2 Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Imaflex has multiple facilities in Canada and one in Thomasville, North Carolina.2,3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Imaflex reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on February 17, 2025, Imaflex detected unusual activity affecting certain systems on its network.1 As a result, Imaflex launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Imaflex confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Imaflex began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information (e.g., phone number and email address)
  • Professional information (e.g., title, position, salary, employment history, performance appraisal, ect.)
  • Additional information contained within employees’ human resources file

 

As a result of the data breach, Imaflex began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Imaflex is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
