Sunnking is an electronics recycling company based in New York. Founded in 2000 as a reseller of electronic devices, Sunnking has transitioned into managing electronic scrap.2 This includes as suite of IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) services such as data center decommissioning, IT asset redeployment, reverse logistics, remote workplace solutions, product destruction and recycling, ESG reporting, and more.3 Today, Sunnking processes over 25 million pounds of renewable resource materials annually.2 Headquartered in Brockport, New York, Sunnking has over 20 locations across the United States and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Sunnking reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on February 5, 2025, Sunnking learned of unusual activity in its network.1 As a result, Sunnking launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Sunnking confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and downloaded by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Sunnking began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Sunnking. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or other government identification number
- Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
On March 27, 2025, Sunnking began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, Sunnking is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
