Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Heritage South Credit Union (“Heritage South”), regarding its recent data breach. The Heritage South data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Heritage South is a full-service financial institution based in Alabama. Founded in 1937, Heritage South offers a variety of financial services and products, including checking accounts, credit cards, mortgages, auto and personal loans, investment services, and digital banking services. Today, Heritage South has over $160 million in assets and more than 14,000 members.2 Headquartered in Sylacauga, Alabama, Heritage South has six additional locations in Alabama and employs over 30 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Heritage South reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on February 12, 2025, Heritage South detected suspicious activity within its computer network.1 As a result, Heritage South launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Heritage South confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third on January 7, 2025, and again between February 6 and February 17, 2025. As a result, Heritage South began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Financial account number
As a result of the data breach, Heritage South began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Massachusetts residents, Heritage South is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
