Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating PMA Consultants (“PMA”) regarding its recent data breach. The PMA data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 1,800 individuals.
ABOUT PMA CONSULTANTS:
PMA is a construction management consulting firm based in Michigan. Founded in 1971, PMA provides services to a wide range of markets such as aviation, education, government, healthcare, hospitality, recreation, manufacturing, office and retail, power and energy, and transportation.3 Today, these services include program and project management, project controls, construction claims, project risk management, PMIS implementation, and GPM and NetPoint consulting.3 Headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, PMA has over 20 locations across the United States and Canada, and employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, PMA reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on May 7, 2024, PMA discovered that it had experienced a sophisticated ransomware attack.1 As a result, PMA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, on February 5, 2025, PMA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems belonging to employees and their spouses/dependents may have been compromised during the breach. As a result, PMA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
On March 17, 2025, PMA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, PMA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
