Goodwill Industries of Southwest Oklahoma & North Texas Data Breach Investigation

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Goodwill Industries announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on February 1, 2024, Goodwill Industries detected unusual activity on its network.1 As a result, Goodwill Industries launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Goodwill Industries confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Goodwill Industries began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On February 19, 2025, Goodwill Industries completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Government identification number
  • Financial information (e.g., financial account number, credit or debit card number)
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance policy number
  • IRS identity protection PIN

 

On March 4, 2025, Goodwill Industries posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Goodwill Industries is sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Goodwill Industries is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
