WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, McLanahan reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, in 2024, McLanahan discovered suspicious activity in its environment.1 As a result, McLanahan launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, McLanahan confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between February 23, 2024, and March 9, 2024. As a result, McLanahan began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On January 6, 2025, McLanahan completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Account number with or without bank name or routing number
On February 28, 2025, McLanahan began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to the Maine residents, McLanahan is providing affected individuals with a list of the information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
