Founded in 1997, Restorix provides a custom wound care management solution tailored specifically for patients in various settings.2,3 In 2019, Restorix began offering wound care to patients in their home, supplementing their existing in-clinic and post-acute care.2 Today, Restorix serves hospitals and health care systems, providers, nursing homes, patients with managed care plans, and more.3 Headquartered in Metairie, Louisiana, Restorix employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Restorix posted notice on its website that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on or around May 30, 2024, Restorix learned that an unauthorized actor obtained access to an employee email account.1 As a result, Restorix launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Restorix confirmed that sensitive personal information in the employee’s email account may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between May 7 and May 29, 2024. As a result, Restorix began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license, passport, or other government identification number
- Medical information, such as patient ID number, prescription information, dates of services, condition, treatment, or diagnosis
- Certificate and/or license number
- Health insurance information
On February 14, 2025, Restorix began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Restorix is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted.
