Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Daedong-USA, Inc., and its wholly owned subsidiary, Kioti Tractor Division (“DD-USA”), regarding its recent data breach. The DD-USA data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 10,000 individuals.
ABOUT DAEDONG-USA, INC. AND ITS SUBSIDARY KIOTI TRACTOR DIVISION:
DD-USA is a manufacturing company based in North Carolina. Founded in 1947, Daedong Industrial is the original name of DD-USA’s South Korean parent company, Daegong Corporation.2 Around the time their first tractor was introduced to the US market in 1986, DD-USA partnered with local company Lely Kioti and acquired the brand when DD-USA was founded in 1993.3 Today, DD-USA’s distributes KIOTI agricultural machinery such as tractors, zero turn mowers, utility vehicles, and attachments through over 400 dealers in the U.S. and Canada.4,5 Headquartered in Wendell, North Carolina, DD-USA has a U.S. warehouse distribution system.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, DD-USA reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, DD-USA recently experienced a data security incident. As a result, DD-USA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, in mid-October 2024 DD-USA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party on or around January 23, 2024. As a result, DD-USA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Government issued ID number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On February 20, 2025, DD-USA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, DD-USA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
