WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, The Watergate Hotel announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on April 6, 2024, The Watergate Hotel identified suspicious activity on its network.1 As a result, The Watergate Hotel launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, The Watergate Hotel confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, The Watergate Hotel began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license and/or other government issued identification number
- Financial account information
- Payment card information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the breach, The Watergate Hotel posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on February 7, 2025, The Watergate Hotel began mailing breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice, The Watergate Hotel is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and credit monitoring services.
