Argenio Bros Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT ARGENIO BROS., INC.:

Argenio Bros. is a family owned and operated construction company based in New York. Officially established in 1967, Argenio Bros. provides a variety of construction services, including earthwork, paving, recycling, site development and reconstruction, specialty, transportation, and utility work.4 Today, ninety percent of the work Argenio Bros. performs is self-administered with approximately 10% being performed by a key group of sub-contractors.5 Argenio Bros. is headquartered in Newburgh, New York.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Argenio Bros. reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on October 28, 2024, Argenio Bros. became aware of unusual activity on its network.1 As a result, Argenio Bros. launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Argenio Bros. confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between October 1 and October 28, 2024. As a result, Argenio Bros. began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On January 9, 2024, Argenio Bros. completed this review. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Argenio Bros. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Account number, credit card number or debit card number, if circumstances exist wherein such a number could be used without additional identifying information, access codes or passwords
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes

 

On January 23, 2025, Argenio Bros. began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Argenio Bros. is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
