NAAC is a healthcare organization based in Washington. Originally focusing on pediatric and adolescent patients when it began in 1964, today NAAC addresses allergies, asthma, sinus disease, eczema, hives, and immune system disorders in people of all ages.2 Services that NAAC uses to provide care for these conditions include oral immunotherapy, desensitization, asthma biologic therapies, medication, and education.1 Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, NAAC has additional locations in Everett, Issaquah, Redmond, Renton, Richland.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, NAAC posted notice on its website that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its email environment may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on November 13, 2024, NAAC became aware of unauthorized access to an employee email.1 As a result, NAAC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, NAAC confirmed that sensitive personal information in the affected inbox may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between November 12 and November 13, 2024. As a result, NAAC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Insurance information
- Treatment information
- Contact information
On December 12, 2024, NAAC reported the breach to the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Based on the website breach notice, NAAC is notifying affected individuals. A link to the form breach notification that NAAC posted on its website’s main page is below.
