Pier Foundry is a foundry based in Minnesota. Founded in 1889, Pier Foundry is an ISO certified provider of grey iron, ductile iron, and austempered ductile iron castings.2 Today, Pier Foundry provides casted products for a wide range of industries and applications, such as agriculture, heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, and industrial machinery.3 Headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, Pier Foundry employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Pier Foundry reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on April 16, 2024, Pier Foundry became aware of unusual activity related to its network.1 As a result, Pier Foundry launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, on December 10, 2024, Pier Foundry confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party. As a result, Pier Foundry began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Pier Foundry. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or other government identification number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account

 

On December 17, 2024, Pier Foundry began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, Pier Foundry is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
