National Coatings & Supplies | Single Source Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating National Coatings & Supplies | Single Source, Inc. (“NCS | SSI”) regarding its recent data breach. The NCS | SSI data breach may have involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 1,200 individuals.

NCS | SSI is an automotive and industrial paint distributor based in North Carolina. Founded in 2006, NCS | SSI distributes industrial paint, coatings, supplies, and equipment to more than 15,000 collision centers, body shops, manufactures, maintenance companies, and individuals across the United States.2 Today, NCS | SSI offers its products and services to the aerospace/aviation, agriculture, automotive, construction, commercial, energy, industrial, fleet, marine, manufacturing, military, transportation, and sports industries.2 Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, NCS | SSI has over 200 stores across 43 states and employs over 1,200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, NCS | SSI reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or about August 15, 2024, NCS | SSI became aware of suspicious activity related to certain computer systems.1 As a result, NCS | SSI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, NCS | SSI confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to current and former employees in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between August 13 and August 15, 2024. As a result, NCS | SSI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Government issued identification information
  • Financial account information

 

On December 10, 2024, NCS | SSI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, NCS | SSI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
