Founded in 2007, Center for Vein Restoration specializes in the treatment of venous insufficiency, the cause of varicose veins and spider veins.3 Today, Center for Vein Restoration offers relief from leg pain, treatment for the vascular cause of severe leg wounds, and eliminates unsightly veins.3 Headquartered in Greenbelt, Maryland, Center for Vein Restoration has over 100 locations and employs over 500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Center for Vein Restoration announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on October 6, 2024, Center for Vein Restoration was alerted to unusual activity involving its information technology environment.1 As a result, Center for Vein Restoration launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Center for Vein Restoration discovered that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party during the incident. As a result, Center for Vein Restoration began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, diagnosis, lab results, medications, treatment information, provider names, dates of treatment)
  • Health insurance information
  • Employment information (if applicable)

 

As a result of the data breach, Center for Vein Restoration posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on December 5, 2024, Center for Vein Restoration filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. Based on the website breach notice, Center for Vein Restoration is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
