WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Thompson Coburn announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to patients of its client, Presbytrian Healthcare Services (PHS), in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on May 29, 2024, Thompson Coburn became aware of suspicious activity within its network. As a result, Thompson Coburn launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Thompson Coburn confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third-party between May 28 and May 29, 2024. As a result, Thompson Coburn began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. During the review, Thompson Coburn determined that certain information related to patients of PHS was contained within the acquired files.1 While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Medical information (e.g., medical record number, patient account number, prescription/treatment information, clinical information, medical provider information)
- Health insurance information
As a result of the data breach, Thompson Coburn posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, Thompson Coburn plans to mail data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, Thompson Coburn is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
