Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company and its affiliates (“PacSci”), regarding its recent data breach. The PacSci data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 2,000 individuals.

ABOUT PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC ENERGETIC MATERIALS COMPANY:

PacSci is a critical systems and components manufacturer based in Arizona. Founded in 1975, PacSci designs, develops, and manufactures a variety of pyrotechnic and energetic material devices and integrated systems from critical systems such as aircraft emergency safety systems to sequencing systems for strategic and tactical missiles.2 Since 2016, PacSci has been a subsidiary of Fortive, a global technology company based in Washington.3 Headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, PacSci employs over 500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, PacSci reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, in October and November 2023, PacSci detected unusual activity within its network environment stemming from cybersecurity incidents involving two separate unauthorized third parties.1 Upon becoming aware of the issue, PacSci launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, PacSci learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual between January 25, 2023, and November 6, 2023. As a result, PacSci began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On September 3, 2024, PacSci concluded this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license or state issued identification number
  • Passport number
  • Birth certificate number
  • Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
  • Health insurance information

On October 3, 2024, PacSci began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, PacSci is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
