Minute Women is a senior home care company based in Massachusetts. Founded in 1969, Minute Women’s services include home-based recovery support, fall prevention care, passive patient monitoring, 24-hour care, and live-in care.2 Additionally, Minute Women specializes in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, offering assistance with all activities of daily living such as bathing, showering, dressing/undressing, toileting, eating and mobility.3 Headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, Minute Women employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Minute Women reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on July 12, 2024, Minute Women became aware that a company laptop was compromised by malware.1 Upon becoming aware of the issue, Minute Women launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Minute Women learned that sensitive personal information stored by its payroll provider may have been compromised by an unauthorized individual. As a result, Minute Women began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Bank account information
On September 18, 2024, Minute Women began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Minute Women is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
