Frana Companies Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Frana Companies, Inc. (“Frana”) regarding its recent data breach. The Frana data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 1,400 individuals.

ABOUT FRANA COMPANIES, INC.:

Frana is a construction company based in Minnesota. Founded in 1977, Frana is a builder of privately financed and government-funded multi-family housing.2 Over the years, Frana has managed a wide variety of building projects that range from 15-story poured concrete condominium towers to 300-unit townhome communities to complex interior renovations.2 As of today, Frana has directed the construction of more than 24,000 multi-family units representing over $2.2 billion in construction volume across the Upper Midwest.2 Headquartered in Hopkins, Minnesota, Frana employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Frana reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on May 10, 2024, Frana identified suspicious activity within its network environment. As a result, Frana launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Frana learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized individual on or around April 24, 2024. As a result, Frana began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 28, 2024, Frana completed this review. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Frana. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Account number, credit card number or debit card number, if circumstances exist wherein such a number could be used without additional identifying information, access codes or passwords
  • Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes

 

On September 23, 2024, Frana began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Frana is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
