Founded in 1932, Kittle’s offers a variety of furniture options for the living room, dining room, bedroom, home office, and outdoor space. Today, Kittle’s offerings include couches, chairs, tables, mattresses, dressers, nightstands, desks, rugs, outdoor furniture, home decorations, and more. Additionally, Kittle’s design center allows customers to customize items such as sofas, chairs, loveseats, and sectionals, as well as digitally plan the layout of their room.3 Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kittle’s has multiple locations in Indiana and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Kittle’s reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around February 17, 2023, Kittle’s discovered that it had experienced a cybersecurity incident that impacted its systems. As a result, Kittle’s launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Kittle’s learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized actor between approximately February 7 and February 17, 2023. As a result, Kittle’s began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 12, 2024, Kittle’s completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Passport number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, routing number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On September 16, 2024, Kittle’s began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Kittle’s is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
