WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Lagerlof reported to the Attorney General of Montana that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on March 15, 2024, Lagerlof detected suspicious activity related to an employee’s email account. As a result, Lagerlof launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Lagerlof learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized actor using this email account between January 29, 2024, and March 18, 2024. As a result, Lagerlof began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
- Medical records
On August 13, 2024, Lagerlof began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notices provided to Montana residents, Lagerlof is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary identity monitoring services.
