M&R Printing Equipment Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating M&R Printing Equipment, Inc. (“M&R”) regarding its recent data breach. The M&R data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 1,200 individuals.

ABOUT M&R PRINTING EQUIPMENT, INC.:

M&R is a printing equipment manufacturer based in Illinois. Founded in 1985, M&R products include direct-to-garment digital printers, hybrid digital printing systems, a broad range of textile & graphics presses and dryers, an extensive line of traditional and CTS exposure systems, and an impressive line of finishing equipment.2 Additionally, M&R has numerous patented innovations and works with customers and specialists in other fields to design custom industrial solutions to vexing problems.2 Today, M&R manufactures over one hundred distinct types of equipment and hundreds of product models to address the vast and varied needs of the industry.2 Headquartered in Roselle, Illinois, M&R has three additional locations in New York, Poland, and China, and employs over 500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, M&R reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on June 6, 2024, M&R discovered that it was the victim of a ransomware attack. As a result, M&R launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, M&R learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized actor. As a result, M&R began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On July 8, 2024, M&R completed this review. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by M&R. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or other government identification number
  • Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account

 

On August 16, 2024, M&R mailed data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, M&R is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
