CannonDesign Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating The Cannon Corporation, which does business as CannonDesign, regarding its recent data breach. The CannonDesign data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 13,000 individuals.

ABOUT THE CANNON CORPORATION D/B/A CANNONDESIGN:

CannonDesign is an integrated design and architecture firm based in New York. Founded in 1945, CannonDesign offers a wide range of services, including architecture, interior design, lighting design, furniture solutions, structural engineering, smart building design, laboratory design, MEP engineering, and operational planning and design. Additionally, CannonDesign has joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Sector Climate Pledge as part of its Planet 2100 initiative to create building solutions that push beyond net zero to carbon positive.4 Headquartered in New York, New York, CannonDesign has 17 additional offices across the United States and Canada and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, CannonDesign reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or about January 25, 2023, CannonDesign detected suspicious activity on its computer network. As a result, CannonDesign launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, CannonDesign learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor between January 19 and January 25, 2023. As a result, CannonDesign began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On May 3, 2024, CannonDesign completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:  

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Driver’s license or state identification number
  • Passport number

 

On August 19, 2024, CannonDesign began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, CannonDesign is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
