Today, First Commonwealth is one of the largest credit unions in the Greater Lehigh Valley with over $1.4 billion in assets.3 Headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, First Commonwealth has 12 additional locations in Pennsylvania and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, First Commonwealth reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on June 27, 2024, First Commonwealth discovered suspicious activity on its network. As a result, First Commonwealth launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, First Commonwealth learned that sensitive personal information may have been viewed or taken from its network on or around June 26, 2024. As a result, First Commonwealth began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Account number
On August 2, 2024, First Commonwealth began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, First Commonwealth is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
