Basement Systems Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Basement Systems, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Basements Systems data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 1,100 individuals.

ABOUT BASEMENT SYSTEMS, INC.:

Basement Systems is a construction contracting company based in Connecticut. Founded in 1987, Basement Systems is a network of basement waterproofing and crawl space repair contractors spanning across the United States and Canada.3 Today, Basement Systems provides a variety of construction and repair services, including basement waterproofing, crawl space repair, foundation repair, basement finishing, and dehumidification. Additionally, Basement Systems offers a range of products such as sump pumps, dehumidifiers, drainage systems, basement windows, basement wall systems, basement flooring, crawl space vapor barriers, and more. Headquartered in Seymour, Connecticut, Basement Systems has nearly 200 dealership locations across the United States and Canada and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Basement Systems reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on May 13, 2024, Basement Systems discovered that it had experienced an incident that temporarily disrupted its computer network. As a result, Basement Systems launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Basement Systems learned that sensitive personal information may have been viewed by an unauthorized third party between April 12, 2024, and May 14, 2024. As a result, Basement Systems began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On August 1, 2024, Basement Systems began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Basement Systems is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted complimentary credit monitoring services.
