New York School of Interior Design Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating New York School of Interior Design (“NYSID”) regarding its recent data breach. The NYSID data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 18,400 individuals.

ABOUT NEW YORK SCHOOL OF INTERIOR DESIGN:

NYSID is a private, nonprofit college focused exclusively on interior design based in New York. Founded in 1916, NYSID offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs for students at all stages of their careers.2 Chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York in 1924, NYSID is authorized by the Board of Regents to confer the Basic Interior Design certificate, the degrees of Associate in Applied Science in Interior Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design, Master of Professional Studies in Healthcare Interior Design, Master of Professional Studies in Lighting Design, and Master of Professional Studies in Sustainable Interior Environments.3 Today, NYSID has two campus locations in New York City, employs over 100 individuals, and has a total enrollment of over 600 students.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On November 27, 2023, NYSID discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, NYSID determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information between November 2 and November 26, 2023. On July 9, 2024, NYSID began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
