Thriving Mind South Florida Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating South Florida Behavioral Health Network, which does business as Thriving Mind South Florida (“Thriving Mind”), regarding its recent data breach. The Thriving Mind data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Founded in 2003, Thriving Mind partners with a number of local, state and federal organizations in order to provide a full range of services to adults, children and youth.2 Today, Thriving Mind provides direct mental health and substance use treatment and prevention services to more than 225,000 people in its region who are uninsured or underinsured.2 In addition, Thriving Mind provides leadership for major transformative projects like Mobile Response and 988.2 Headquartered in Miami, Florida, Thriving Mind employs over 10 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Thriving Mind discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired.  Through its investigation, Thriving Mind determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to this sensitive information between August 1 and August 3, 2023. As a result, Thriving Mind began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Financial information
  • Medical information 
  • Health insurance information
