The RCRC data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT REDWOOD COAST REGIONAL CENTER:

RCRC is a healthcare organization based in California. Founded in 1983, RCRC provides intake, assessment, diagnosis, and coordinates community-based services for over 10,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities in Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, and Mendocino counties.2 Additionally, RCRC works in partnership with many individuals, family members, community leaders, and agencies to help the people we serve live quality, independent lives in our region.2 Headquartered in Ukiah, California, RCRC has five additional locations and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, RCRC discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, RCRC determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information on March 6, 2024. As a result, RCRC began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information
  • Driver’s license or state ID number
  • Financial account information
  • Medical information (e.g., treatment/diagnosis information, prescription information, provider name, medical record/case number, Medicare/Medicaid ID number)
  • Health insurance information
  • Treatment cost information
