Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating a data breach involving the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Staff Retirement and National Pension Funds (“IATSE Funds”). The IATSE Funds data breach involved personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

The International Alliance of the Theatrical Stage Employees (“IATSE”) is the largest union representing workers in the entertainment industry in The United States and Canada.2 Founded in 1893, IATSE members work in all forms of live theater, motion picture production, television production, television broadcasting, trade shows, exhibitions, and concerts, as well as the equipment and construction shops that support all these areas of the entertainment industry.2 Today, IATSE represents virtually all the behind-the-scenes workers in crafts ranging from motion picture animation to theater ushering.2 Headquartered in New York, New York, IATSE has four additional offices in the United States and Canada and employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 8, 2023, the IATSE Funds were informed that Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”), a third-party service provider, had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to individuals associated with the IATSE Funds may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, PBI determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer, a file sharing software used by PBI, on May 29, 2023, and May 30, 2023. On September 21, 2023, PBI began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

- Social Security number
