WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, GEICO discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information may have been accessed and acquired. In January 2024, GEICO reported the data breach to the Attorney General of Texas. According to the breach report, GEICO has notified individuals whose data may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or government issued ID number (e.g., passport, state ID card)
- Address
- Date of birth
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
