Villager Construction Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT VILLAGER CONSTRUCTION INC.:

Villager is a privately owned, full-service highway construction company based in New York. Founded in 1980, Villager provides all aspects of road construction, including excavating, paving, milling, storm water and sanitary sewer reconstruction and installation, waterline installation, and concrete work.2 In its role as general contractor, sub-contractor, or project manager, Villager employs over 200 highly-skilled project managers, superintendents, foremen, operators, laborers, and drivers, who together handle bonded work for local municipalities, state, and federal agencies ranging from $5,000 to $25 million per project.3 Headquartered in Fairport, New York, Villager has an additional office in Gaffney, South Carolina.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On May 31, 2023, Villager discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Villager determined that an unknown, unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between May 24 and May 31, 2023. On January 9, 2023, Villager began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
