SCP&H is a Certified Public Accounting firm based in Arizona. Serving both individuals and businesses, SCP&H offers a wide range of financial services, including tax, consulting, and accounting services; QuickBooks setup, support, and training; business startup services, including LLC/S Corporation formation; and tax consulting and planning. Additionally, SCP&H provides income tax preparation for all types of businesses and individuals, payroll and sales tax reporting, monthly bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and virtual accounting services.2 Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, SCP&H has one location and employs over 20 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 11, 2023, SCP&H discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, SCP&H determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information through an employee’s email account and a cloud-based data storage site used to store documents from June 6, 2023, to July 12, 2023. On January 24, 2024, SCP&H began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by SCP&H. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state-issued identification number
- Financial information (e.g., financial account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Taxpayer ID number
- Identity protection personal ID number
