WebTPA Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating WebTPA Employer Services, LLC (“WebTPA”) regarding its recent data breach. The WebTPA data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT WEBTPA EMPLOYER SERVICES, LLC:

WebTPA is an insurance company based in Texas. Founded in 1993, WebTPA is a third-party administrator with over 30+ years of experience building custom health plans for clients in a variety of industries, including automotive, healthcare, hospitality, finance, and municipalities.2 Today, WebTPA serves over 2.5 million members with 25,000 different benefit plan structures, resulting in over 6 million claims processed annually.3 Headquartered in Irving, Texas, WebTPA has two additional locations in Texas and employs over 500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 28, 2023, WebTPA discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired. Through its investigation, WebTPA determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed this sensitive information between April 18 and April 23, 2023. On April 11, 2024, WebTPA began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by WebTPA. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification number
  • Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number in combination with security code, access code, or password)
