WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, BPS discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, BPS determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through an employee’s email account on December 14, 2023. On April 15, 2024, BPS began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by BPS. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state identification number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number in combination with security code, access code, or password)
