WHAT HAPPENED?
In April 2026, Vercel posted on its website that it had identified a security incident that involved unauthorized access to certain internal Vercel systems.1 According to this post, the incident originated with a compromise of Context.ai, a third-party AI tool used by a Vercel employee.1 The attacker used that access to take over the employee’s individual Vercel Google Workspace account, which enabled them to gain access to that employee’s Vercel account, and eventually pivot into a Vercel environment.1 Additionally, Vercel has confirmed that they have identified a limited subset of customers whose non-sensitive environment variables stored on Vercel (those that decrypt to plaintext) were compromised.1 As of April 29, 2026, Vercel as not revealed the full extent of the attack or the information potentially affected.
