Schiff is an accounting firm and dental practice management consultancy based in Maryland. Founded in 2006, Schiff provides accounting, tax and consulting services exclusively to dental practices.2,3 Business services offered by Schiff include accounting services, software implementation, tax minimization, practice management, retirement planning, marketing, valuation, overhead minimization, and more.2 Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Schiff employs over 10 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Schiff announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on October 12, 2025, Schiff became aware of suspicious activity within its network.1 As a result, Schiff launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Schiff confirmed that sensitive personal information in its network may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Schiff began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On February 10, 2026, Schiff completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- State identification
- Taxpayer identification number
- Financial account information
- Payment card information
As a result of the breach, Schiff posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on March 19, 2026, Schiff began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Schiff is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
