Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Barrio Comprehensive Family Health Care Center, which does business as CommuniCare (“CommuniCare”), regarding its recent data breach. The CommuniCare data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

CommuniCare is a primary healthcare system based in Texas. Founded in 1972, CommuniCare provides a range of healthcare services to patients, including pediatric medicine, senior care, women’s health, neurology, cardiology, dermatology, dental, behavioral health, vision care, and more.2,3 Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, CommuniCare employs over 1,000 individuals, and operates more than 25 clinic locations across Texas.2,3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, CommuniCare announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on September 16, 2025, CommuniCare discovered suspicious activity potentially related to an employee email account.1 As a result, CommuniCare launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, CommuniCare confirmed that sensitive personal information in the emails may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, CommuniCare began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On February 19, 2026, CommuniCare completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Health insurance information (health insurance account member number, health insurance account number, health insurance group number)
- Medical information (medical diagnosis information, provider location, patient account number, clinical information, medical treatment/procedure information, prescription information)
On March 6, 2026, CommuniCare posted notice of the breach on its website. Based on the website breach notice, CommuniCare is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
