UA Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating UA Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (“JATC”) regarding its recent data breach. The JATC data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 20,600 individuals.

JATC is an independent training committee which serves the Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 union and is based in Maryland. Today, JATC governs all training for Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, including a five-year apprenticeship program, which includes one-year segments with 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and minimum of 144 hours of related classroom instruction and independent study.2,3 Headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, JATC provides training for more than 10,000 active journeypersons and more than 2,000 apprentices.2

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, JATC announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on or about May 23, 2024, JATC became aware of suspicious activity related to certain JATC computer systems.1 As a result, JATC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, JATC confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between May 17 and May 23, 2024. As a result, JATC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On January 28, 2026, JATC completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number or state ID number
  • Financial information
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Biometric information

 

As a result of the breach, JATC posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on February 4, 2026, JATC began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, JATC is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
