Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Long Island Weight Loss Institute (“LIWLI”) regarding its recent data breach. The LIWLI data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

LIWLI is a medical weight loss clinic based in New York. Founded in 2001, LIWLI provides a range of physician supervised medical weight loss services, including diet programs, prescription drug programs, weight loss injections, and more.2,3 Additionally, LIWLI offers telehealth services with physicians.2 Headquartered in East Meadow, New York, LIWLI employs over 10 individuals and provides services at four locations.2,3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, LIWLI announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on or around September 22, 2025, LIWLI discovered certain unusual activity within its computer systems.1 As a result, LIWLI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, LIWLI confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems related to patients may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, LIWLI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Contact information (address, phone number, email address)
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Driver’s license number
- Government-issued photo identification document
- Medical information (medical record number, medical treatment information, lab result, diagnosis/conditions, prescription information)
- Health insurance information (claim information, invoice, billing and payment information)
- Credit card/bank account information
On November 19, 2025, LIWLI posted notice of the breach on its website. Based on the website breach notice, LIWLI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
