Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Trocaire College (“Trocaire”) regarding its recent data breach. The Trocaire data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 23,000 individuals.
ABOUT TROCAIRE COLLEGE:
Trocaire is a private Catholic college based in New York. Founded in 1958, Trocaire specializes in providing undergraduate and graduate degrees, certificates, and workforce development programs in healthcare, veterinary sciences, business, and technology.2,3 Programs offered by Trocaire include echocardiography, surgical technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, nursing, biology, IT training, healthcare customer service, and more.2 Additionally, Trocaire serves over 1,100 students who are enrolled in one of its thirteen degree programs or workforce development classes.2 Headquartered in Buffalo, New York, Trocaire employs over 50, individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Trocaire reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on March 13, 2025, Trocaire discovered unusual activity in its digital environment.1 As a result, Trocaire launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Trocaire confirmed that sensitive personal information in its care may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Trocaire began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On December 4, 2025, Trocaire completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state identification number
- Passport number
On January 16, 2026, Trocaire began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Trocaire is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
