Founded in 1981, ITASCA develops commercial software for geomechanical and hydrogeological simulation and analysis, which is used for structural assessment, energy ventures, mining excavations, and more.2,3 Additionally, ITASCA provides consulting services for the mining, civil, and energy industries.2 Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, ITASCA employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, ITASCA reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about December 12, 2025, ITASCA detected that it was the target of a data security incident.1 As a result, ITASCA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, ITASCA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and compromised by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, ITASCA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Mailing address
- Driver’s license number
On January 23, 2026, ITASCA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, ITASCA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
