Garten Services Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Garten Services, Inc. (“Garten”) regarding its recent data breach. The Garten data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT GARTEN SERVICES, INC.:

Garten is a non-profit disability services organization based in Oregon. Founded in 1970, Garten provides customized vocational, day activity, and retirement services for people with developmental disabilities and long-term mental illness.2,3 Business divisions operated by Garten which provide job opportunities include e-recycling programs, document shredding services, landscaping services, print and mail services, and custodial services.2 Headquartered in Salem, Oregon, Garten employs over 200 individuals and works with hundreds of local businesses and agencies throughout the Willamette Valley.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Garten reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on August 2, 2025, Garten became aware of suspicious activity within its network environment.1 As a result, Garten launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Garten confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, Garten began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On December 4, 2025, Garten completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:4

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license information
  • Medical records

 

As a result of the breach, Garten began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, Garten is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
