Founded in 1962, Doyle auctions and appraises a range of luxury items, including fine art, jewelry, rare books, furniture, decorations, coins, stamps, and other specialty items.2,3 In addition to individual appraisals, Doyle works with museums and other institutions to provide appraisal and auction services for their collections, including the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the Denver Art Museum, Duke University, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, etc.4 Headquartered in New York, New York, Doyle employs over 50 individuals and operates approximately 11 additional locations across California, New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Illinois, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.2,3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Doyle reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or about February 18, 2025, Doyle became aware of suspicious activity related to its computer network.1 As a result, Doyle launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Doyle confirmed that sensitive personal information in its system may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between October 24, 2025, and February 18, 2025. As a result, Doyle began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Financial account information
On or about December 10, 2025, Doyle began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Doyle is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
