Today, Surgisite Boston provides a range of eye surgery procedures for patients, including cataract removal, lens implantation, corneal transplants, retinal and glaucoma procedures, and more.2,3 Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, Surgisite Boston is used by approximately 70 eye and vision care doctors in the surrounding region.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Surgisite Boston discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On November 11, 2025, Surgisite Boston filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the Surgisite Boston breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Surgisite Boston breach included the protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals. As a result of the data breach, Surgisite Boston may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
