BT&Co. Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating BT&Co., P.A. (“BT&Co.”) regarding its recent data breach. The BT&Co. data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT BT&CO. P.A.:

BT&Co. is an accounting firm based in Kansas. Founded in 1913, BT&Co. offers various services to clients such as audit, tax, accounting solutions, and consulting services.2 Headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, BT&Co. employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, BT&Co. reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on November 13, 2024, BT&Co. discovered suspicious activity on its network.1 As a result, BT&Co. launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, BT&Co. confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between November 6, 2024, and November 14, 2024. As a result, BT&Co. began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number

 

On October 6, 2025, BT&Co. began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, BT&Co.  is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
